Engineering Manager - Electrification
Solihull or London
£65k + 25% bonus and benefits and relocation if needed
Our client is a world-renowned producer of rail technology, having recently been awarded a number of rolling stock contracts. Their success has created this key role, which requires a rail industry expertise and CRE accredited with the history to be able to get accredited, based from their successful Midlands office, which is growing its team.
The position calls for engineering expertise during both the bid and project phases. There will also be line management so supervisory experience and the ability to roll up ones sleeves and get stuck in is important.
Equally important is both technical and people management experience, with the emphasis being on the technical side. Alongside this TPS (traction power supply) experience is seen as essential.
As an Engineering Manager you will be responsible for all engineering aspects within the segment Rail Electrification. You will direct a small team which you will coordinate and develop according to the business needs. In addition you will support the bidding process as well as the project delivery and represent the technical authority towards the customer.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
"Leading and directing the engineering function and being accountable for engineering's contribution to the overall business result
"Responsible for delivery of the engineering part of the projects, point of contact for all technical issues
"Supporting the bidding process; performing technical tender evaluation with regard to resources, plans, technology, risk, process, etc.
"Planning, co-ordination and management of engineering resources, people and facilities, and for coordinating engineering staff development and training
"Monitoring relevant technological developments and encouraging creativity and innovation within the engineering staff
"Responsible for engineering procedures, processes and process improvement
"Responsible for ensuring the review of changes to engineering Railway Group and Network Rail Company Standards and briefing changes
"Maintaining and developing good relationships with customers, industry associations, suppliers and partners.
It is equally important that you are seen to be encouraging and developing good engineering links at all levels across the group.
Our client is seeking preferably a Chartered Engineer, who possesses detailed technical knowledge associated within the electrification arena.
It is seen as essential that you have experience with Traction Power Supply (TPS and advantageous that you have experience with Overhead Lines (OHL) as well.
You will require experience within the rail environment and have the ability to meet the acceptance criteria from Network Rail for a Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE).
Also important is experience and knowledge of engineering process at all stages of the engineering lifecycle as well as strong management, organisational and leadership capabilities. You will also possess excellent presentation and communication skills and the ability to manage a small team.
