Technical Manager - London - Up to £60k plus bonus and benefits my client is a UK PLC software house producing packaged resource management and analysis solutions to the international Healthcare, Defence, Maritime, Education & Government sectors. They have experienced sustained growth with clients in the UK, Europe, USA and other overseas territories, because of this they are looking to expand the development team to enable extension of current products and R&D to ensure future business needs can be met with effective technological solutions.
Main activities:
Reporting to the Group Product Director, the Technical Manager will have responsibility to build a team primarily focused in the area of system interfaces and the integration of those interfaces with other client systems. Key functions of the role are task definition, allocation, tracking and project documentation as well as hands on development. The development team is of a medium size with an expectation of expansion over time; this role is based on building a new sub team within development to take full responsibility for interfacing requirements across the suite of products.
This role will work very closely with others in the Development Management team, and while key design and architectural decisions will be resolved in this team, the Technical Manager will be expected to participate fully in architectural discussions. This role will be based in the London office; however there will be some need for travel domestically and possibly internationally.

Technical Knowledge
Hands on development skills in C#.Net, XML/ XSL, Web Services, Test Driven Development.
Understanding and appreciation for how/ where/ why various technologies can be applied to implement effective business applications including; C#, .Net, XML/ XSL, SQL, ASP.Net, Web Applications, Services or equivalent development technologies, eg J2EE
UML and diagramming skills
Requirements Analysis
Requirements gathering, specification and communication with pragmatic, results based focus.
Ability to work directly with customers on requirements.
Translating business requirements into application design
Object Oriented Programming and Design
Solid understanding OO design and programming to provide quality, performant solutions.
Ability to effectively communicate with developers around OO design decisions
Project Management Skills
Project definition, task management, estimation and planning
Progress tracking, ideally knowledge of both Waterfall and Agile methodologies
Professionalism
Self managed, mature approach, takes responsibility and ownership, diligence, pragmatism
Personnel management
Motivating and getting productive work from varied development staff
Dealing with personnel issues
Development methodology
Knowledge of the full software lifecycle and how source control, build, configuration management and testing can be optimised to meet business needs
Personal Productivity
Flexible approach to delivering solutions focusing on getting software complete and delivered without sacrificing quality
Self disciplined with an attention to detail
Cultural Fit
Calm, confident, and open with a desire to learn and improve
