Design Authority / Solutions Architect - Berkshire
Job Purpose
The role of a Design Authority (DA) is to work with a Project Manager to ensure the successful implementation of a project or programme of work.
The DA is accountable for exerting technical control over a solution and providing an informed buyer capability. The DA must be capable of managing the technical risk associated with a delivery while also being fully aware of the commercial implications of their decisions. The DA is particularly concerned that any proposed solution fits with my clients standards and interfaces seamlessly with solutions being developed by other projects or with legacy applications.
Qualifications
Successful candidates must have had experience in modelling techniques (e.g. UML, SSADM, Yourdon etc.) and be familiar with different approaches to development ( Waterfall, RAD etc.).
Background knowledge of the electricity market is desirable.
Excellent knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
Experience of working with external suppliers in a highly commercial environment
Good Influencing and negotiating skills.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Key Tasks
Works with Users to specify system requirements
Requirement tracking and change control
Requirement tracing to supplier solutions
Maintains high level designs especially covering how new solutions fit into our existing portfolio of applications
Manages technical interfaces between projects
Ensures that supplier designs are in-line with my clients standards and raises technical exceptions where appropriate
Provides an assurance role to Project Managers with respect to estimates and plans from suppliers
Final sign-off for technical deliverables from suppliers (e.g. design documents etc.)
Regular liaison with Technical Services, Strategy, Business Solutions and Application Support

Given the nature of the role and stakeholders involved it would be desirable for the successful candidate to be able to speak French
