My client is a global storage organisation. Due to expansion, they are looking to increase the size of their data centre support team. The key accountabilities of the role are:
To provide 3rd level / expert level IT support to the network and server infrastructure in use via telephone, site visits, remote access, etc.
To act as an escalation point for other IT support teams.
To provide systems administration and operational services for the various IT systems and services in use.
To prepare and maintain operational procedures/ processes to accompany IT systems and services.
To prepare and maintain user and technical support documentation including the production of suitable training guides as required.
To provide pre & post-sales technical support to internal and external clients as required.
To participate in the development and definition of IT standards.
To produce solution designs for new systems and services and to present these to the business.
To act as Technical lead on infrastructure projects.
To maintain effective communication and build relationships with fellow IT staff.
To proactively research new solutions and technologies for current & future needs and to prepare white papers on their suitability for use.
To liaise with relevant 3rd Party IT suppliers/ partners as required.
To participate in the 24x7x365 on call rota.
The skills required for the role are:
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Good interpersonal skills
Able to compile complex technical documents and designs in line with industry best practice
Able to present ideas to technical and non-technical staff
Able to produce high quality work with minimal supervision
Able to prioritise and organise tasks whilst under pressure
Self motivated and directed
Able to conduct research into new technologies and products as required
Able to present ideas to technical and non-technical staff.
Possess strong technical awareness of enterprise-wide IT architecture including high availability and disaster recover principles
Possess strong technical knowledge of Microsoft server operating systems
Possess strong technical knowledge of Unix/ Linux operating systems
Possess good technical knowledge of VMware ESX VI3 and HA/ DRS
Possess strong knowledge of Citrix technologies
Possess good technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Possess good technical knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003/ 2007
Possess good technical knowledge of current Cisco network hardware, protocols, and standards
Possess good technical knowledge of security solutions to include firewall configuration, router access control filtering and intrusion detection systems
Candidates should have experience of working in a team-oriented/ collaborative environment and would ideally have the relevant qualifications to compliment the skills required. You should also be prepared to do a small amount (10% of role) of travelling.
