Resource Analyst / Oceanographer

Our client is developing sites to support the production pipeline for their key products. To identify the best sites to develop, our client is developing tidal and wave model of areas in countries of interest using Mike21 software. Areas showing potentially viable levels of resource are being screened using constraints held in a GIS database such as environmentally protected areas, munitions dumps etc. The role includes assisting in both these areas and preparing data (in a variety of forms) for use in GIS and Mike21. The role also includes some project tracking, in terms of updating project tasks and deadlines within the gant chart, updating the projected budget and obtaining quotes from consultants.
Key Result areas
-Track the progress of projects in terms of milestones and tasks
-Track the budget of each project and the department as a whole
-Preparation of data for use in resource assessment and site selection
-Operation of wave and tidal models
-Production of GIS maps describing potential sites
-Skills, knowledge and experience required
Essential
-Diligence
-Positive, can do outlook
-Good communications skills
-Some knowledge of a programming language
-A background in a numeric subject such as engineering, oceanography, physics etc
-Ability to use MS word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
Beneficial skills
-An understanding of ocean process, tides and waves
-An understanding of near shore and intertidal environmental issues
-An understanding of GIS, projections, datums and mapping
-Familiarity with Matlab
-Familiarity with MS project
-Familiarity with Mike21 or another tidal or wave modeling software
-Familiarity with MS project
-Familiarity with ArcView
-Familiarity with using a database and writing sql to extract query for data
-Report writing
-Public speaking
