Project Manager / Team Lead, West Sussex, £50k + Benefits
To define and deliver the changes (in organisation, processes, roles, systems & technology) to satisfy a Business requirement, to the agreed time, cost and quality.
Responsibilities
•responsible for the delivery of all in-house staff assigned to a project or work-stream within a programme
•responsible for all external consultants working on a project/ programme, can be up to 20 external people at any one time
•responsibility for suppliers contributing to the solution the project team are implementing
•financial impact: projects are all capital investments, with project manager accountable for delivery to the agreed time, cost & quality. This role has a major impact on whether this investment delivers a return to the Business. Poor project management can result in projects being cancelled, significant cost over-runs or poor quality solutions that can have a major impact on current operations
•would typically manage between 1 and 4 projects, with limited overall risk to the Business
•responsible for managing staff directly reporting to them and having line responsibility for their development. Teams may vary in size dependent on project/ programme
•responsibility for one or more stages in the project lifecycle and also understanding the cross-dependencies on projects/ programmes
communication to the Business & IS department of the progress/ success of a project
Accountables
•committing to deliver a project by defining and agreeing with the programme manager/ sponsor, the scope, requirement, constraints (including budget & time-scales), dependencies (including project start up criteria), project structure and timing
•planning a project such that all activities are identified as early as possible, the constraints are planned for (e.g. time or cost restraints), those delegated responsibility for parts of the plan, are committed to achieving the plan, and the people provided to the project have the required skills and experience
•managing the performance of team members, including the development of project skills for in-house team members
•ensuring that what the project team proposes to deliver meets the requirement and quality criteria, is fully agreed to and understood and the Business continue to gain Business benefit
•assisting the programme manager to identify and mitigate risk, both risks in the project and consequential risks to the Business
•assisting the programme manager in managing the project communications, ensuring all with a vested interest are kept informed and also to inform other programmes where there may be some overlap. Areas of overlap also require to have an owner identified within a programme
•successfully completing the project to the agreed time, cost and quality
to ensure that members of their team all have regular appraisals and personal development plans, including objectives
Qualities
•project management experience
•exposure to the full development lifecycle
•experience/ exposure to change management, in terms of process & organisation
•good understanding of retail or business related to current programmes
•preferably practice in or exposure to structured methods
•good organisational & planning skills
•good team player
•operates in a "can-do" style
