Future facing and proactive,

You’ll create forward-thinking IT security.

The challenge

A fast-evolving public corporation, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is committed to shaping the future of regulation in the UK nuclear industry. We’re making some innovative and wide-reaching changes to the very ways in which we work, and we need future-facing individuals to help us achieve our visions.

The role

With your expertise and passion, you’ll enhance everything from our cyber and information security, right through to the physical protection of our IT department and wider business. This crucial role will see you implementing information governance frameworks and monitoring IT compliance to group security standards, ISO27001.

With a passion for future-proofing our security, you’ll help to facilitate vulnerability scanning and penetration tests. It’s about ensuring our IT systems are always secure and accessible - protecting our information and our reputation in the nuclear industry. You’ll always have an eye on the bigger picture, and proactively keep up to date with the latest technology that could potentially threaten our systems.

The person

To join us, you’ll have a background in designing and supporting the implementation of IT security controls. We’ll expect you to have experience in network, database and infrastructure security controls, along with practical knowledge of industry standards. You’ll also have significant technical experience.

Thanks to a background in change management, you’ll work collaboratively and proactively to improve our services. And with outstanding communication skills, you’ll be able to explain IT principles and translate security concepts to the business in a clear manner. Above all, you’ll be passionate about protecting the future of the nuclear industry.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £38,250 - £45,333. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for an incredibly substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you’ll receive a very generous holiday entitlement.

About us

ONR is a Public Corporation with a mission to ensure the highest standards of safety and security across all of the UK’s licensed nuclear sites. Our staff are drawn from a wide range of professional backgrounds in order to run a stand-alone business. There are specialist inspectors working in core functions including: civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. And, together, they’re involved in everything from assessing safety cases, inspecting nuclear sites and communicating our decisions, to training new recruits and representing the UK and ONR within the wider, international nuclear community.
