Redgate is looking to recruit a Development Lead to lead multiple teams creating products for Microsoft data professionals.

As a Development Lead, your mission is to create high-performing teams who incrementally deliver great products to our customers. You’ll line manage tech leads and support them driving the team forward to deliver products our customers love. As a line manager, you’ll be responsible for both the pastoral care and career development of those you manage.

Across the teams you’ll be responsible for the delivery of products. You’ll work with the tech leads to apply lean practices to help prioritize and scope work. You’ll be responsible for the broader program management, working together with the product owners to help the teams understand how to align their work with the wider goals of Redgate.

You’ll support the team in adopting the right practices for the job at hand (there’s no such thing as "best practice", right?). You’ll have a great set of tools to support teams, from agile/lean techniques through to coding practices such as test-driven development, refactoring or even mob-programming. You’ll recognize the times you need to bring in deep expertise, and you’ll be able to call on support from a team of coaches (with specialisms in agile and quality).

You’ll have been a technical lead in a previous role and have the battle-scars to prove it. You’ve got the experience to know what works, what doesn’t, and be able to mentor/coach tech leads appropriately. From this experience, you’ll recognize the warning signs that signal when you should get more involved, and you’ll know when to step back and give the team autonomy to make progress their way.

Development at Redgate

The majority of our code is written in C# using Visual Studio and ReSharper. We use GitHub to version our code and have a strong culture of peer code review. Many teams use NCrunch for automatically running unit tests as they type. We use TeamCity for continuous integration and have an automated LED dashboard to provide visual feedback on any failures. We’re relentlessly trying to get faster feedback loops, and we invest heavily in faster automated tests.

We use opensource heavily and encourage contribution back to the community. We believe in transparency, and we display product information publicly, including build status, test status, performance, sales and customer usage information.

We have a healthy internal culture around learning and development with lightning talks, communities of practice, invited speakers and of course Down Tools Week.
