The IT Web Development team are a multi-disciplinary group responsible for HL's online trading platform and various other important internal and external web based systems. It is a team who work very closely with business analysts, testers and other business areas to deliver critical new functionality to clients and staff users.

This is an exciting role within a fast-paced working environment based in the heart of Bristol. If successful, you’ll be working closely with a team of skilled developers to deliver improvements and crucial changes to our services, whilst having the opportunity to be instrumental in the delivery of large scale systems projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Work with other members of the team to help deliver significant new features for the business

- Responsible for writing code adhering to established standards of quality for both code and documentation

- Provide third line support for existing web applications when necessary

- Peer reviewing other developers’ code to ensure conformance with established quality standards

- To provide estimates, prioritise work and produce progress reports as required by management

- Evidence that testing (automated or manual) has been completed prior to work being formally tested

- To ensure existing and newly developed solutions are reliable, performant and maintainable

- Build strong working relationships with colleagues, business users, and other technical teams

- Promote the sharing of technical information within the team

- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and further technologies & techniques embraced by development team

- Maintain awareness of current secure web coding practices and ensure code produced is in line with these

- Maintain & contribute to team standards of web development

Essential Skills and Attributes:

- Grade C or above in Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent)

- Educated to AS / A level (or equivalent)

- Proficient knowledge and understanding of PHP, particularly when developing within a Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP stack

- Understanding of XML (EXtensible Markup Language) and JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) data formats

- Ability to effectively use HTML & CSS, with an understanding of browser support & standards, W3C compliance

- Experience developing Javascript based frontend applications using the jQuery framework

- Knowledge and experience interfacing with MySQL databases

- Have a practical appreciation of database design and working practices

- Demonstrable use of the required skills and knowledge in a professional environment

- Demonstrable experience of having successfully delivered a number of professional projects

- Understanding of professional development methodologies and software development life cycles

- Experience using version control systems e.g. SVN, GIT, Perforce

- Good numerical skills

- Excellent communicator (written and verbal)

- Executes practical solutions

- Excellent attention to detail

- Organises self to deliver agreed objectives calmly and on time

- Ability to work well both independently and in a team

- Ability to perform under pressure

- Takes a sense of pride from doing a good job

- Diligent and hardworking
