An exciting computational position has become available working with Dr Serena Nik-Zainal, which involves developing computational and statistical methods in a pioneering project within the Cancer, Ageing and Somatic Mutation Programme.

The post holder will have responsibilities to develop computational and statistical methods for a project exploring somatic mutations associated with aberrations in DNA repair pathways. We are generating human iPSC lines from patients with germline mutations in DNA repair/replication pathways and generating parallel CRISPr/CAS-9 edited lines of the same genes. The over-arching objective is to explore mutational signatures in the context of the biological mechanisms associated with DNA repair, by integrating cellular/molecular approaches with genome-wide assays including genomic sequencing, RNA-seq and ChIP-seqAn exciting computational position has become available working with Dr Serena Nik-Zainal, which involves developing computational and statistical methods in a pioneering project within the Cancer Genomics Programme.

Essential Skills

- PhD in a relevant subject area (Statistics, Computational Biology, Population Genetics/Genomics, Computer Science, Physics)

- Strong statistical and quantitative skills

- Strong publishing record

- Excellent programming skills (both interpreted and compiled languages e.g. C/Fortran +Perl/Python/Ruby)

- Familiarity with statistical modeling and software

- Extensive experience of UNIX/Linux and cluster computing

- Experience with very large data sets

- Extensive experience of communicating effectively internally at all levels and with select external individuals

- Ability to communicate ideas and results effectively

- Ability to work independently and organise own workload

Ideal Skills

- Experience with analysis of -omics data sets

- Previous experience with QTL analysis

- Previous experience with stem cells

- Some understanding of genomics assays (RNA-seq, ChIP, genome sequencing) would be advantageous
