PHP Web Application Developer
Manchester, £30,000-£40,000
The Role
Contribute to the revolution of online learning: An experienced, highly motivated and innovative PHP developer keen to lead the enhancement of a key customer-facing web application is required by this education business. You will enjoy being a self-starter and managing your own priorities as you will be working directly with business stakeholders and as part of a virtual IT team. You will probably have gained your PHP experience through implementing corporate websites based on WordPress, Joomla, Drupal etc. and you will apply this to the development of an open source learning system based on Moodle. High quality, innovative online learning platforms are a key differentiator in this competitive market. Your contribution will be central to transforming the student learning experience and driving the business forward.
Main Responsibilities
* The primary responsibility of the role is to lead the development and enhancement of a key customer facing online learning application
* Lead on innovation in the application by, for example, the development and configuration of plugins
* Participate in cross-functional teams of IT and business users to develop the plans for the system roadmap
* A secondary responsibility is to support and maintain a small portfolio of other web applications
Skills & Experience
You must:
* Have 3-5+ years PHP v5.x development experience for enterprise web applications, probably developing WordPress, Joomla or Drupal sites, within Linux environments
* A good knowledge of JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS with some Java skills
* Be used to working in a dynamic environment having close interaction with business users
* Be able to demonstrate a high level of understanding of the technical architecture and infrastructure which supports open source systems
* Have a strong analytical mind set to resolve issues and identify opportunities, and customer focus to understand priorities
Ideally you would also have:
* Experience in, or knowledge of, open source learning systems, especially Moodle
* PHP version 6/7 experience
* Experience of working with a variety of DBMS including Oracle, SQL, MySQL
* Basic knowledge or exposure to the Microsoft development stack: .net, SQL, c#, IIS logs.
* Experience of formalised processes for change, configuration, release and issue management.
