The Job:

These two new developer posts will join a team of two other database developers and a database administrator in the John Sinclair House (JSH) building of HES. This team is responsible for the support, maintenance and development of:

Internal heritage management applications based upon Oracle Forms and Oracle Application Express

Web services for consumption by internally developed web based heritage discovery applications

These two new posts will take over the duties of the two existing developers who will then be migrating all Oracle Forms based heritage management applications to Oracle Application Express.

The Oracle team at JSH is part of a larger HES Oracle team. Other Oracle team members are based at Longmore House (LMH) and consist of three Oracle developers, one Scrum Master and two testers who are a dedicated team which is redeveloping other heritage management applications in Oracle Application Express.

This post would suit an experienced database driven web developer interested in transitioning to Oracle web based development as well as an existing Oracle developer looking for an interesting context to apply their skills.

Key responsibilities, duties and objectives:

Day-to-day development, support and maintenance of Oracle databases applications

Planning and implementing relevant projects to oversee development of databases and applications.

Monitoring the progress of projects and programmes of work, for which the post is responsible, to ensure that standards are maintained, milestones and targets are met and objectives achieved.

Liaison with relevant external groups and outside bodies, including representing the organisation at meetings.

Other duties delegated by the Head of Information Systems or by the Information Systems Operational Manager

Maintenance and production support of existing Application Express applications, SOAP web services and mod_plsql data services using Oracle packaged procedures.

Design and development of new Application Express applications, SOAP web services and pl/sql data services using Oracle packaged procedures.

Design and development of new schemas, data models, application objects and the generation of supporting pl/sql packages and objects

Skills and Experience:

Experience of maintaining and developing database driven web based applications

Experience of maintaining and developing Oracle Application Express applications and Oracle web services

Experience of Oracle Application Express user interface customisation

Experience of developing and/or maintaining Oracle Forms & Reports

Experience of working under an Agile development framework

Knowledge and Expertise:

Developing database driven web based applications using standard technologies such as HTML, CSS, Javascript, web services and databases

Developing applications/packages with Oracle Application Express and PL/SQL using tools such as TOAD, SQLDeveloper and Data Modeller

Generating and maintaining Oracle web services using JDeveloper and Data Services using Oracle pl/sql

Knowledge of Oracle Text, Oracle Spatial, along with Oracle tools such as TOAD, SQLDeveloper and Data Modeller

Interest in the application of spatial data

Willingness to learn new skills beyond core technical ability

Qualifications:

Graduate Degree (or higher) in a relevant subject

Oracle Certified Associate/Professional (OCA/P)
