Head of Big Data | Hadoop | Spark | eCommerce | £120,000

If you're the kind of person that likes building high performance data platforms and teams from scratch, and having the decisive say over Big Data technology, this could be a brilliant opportunity for you!

One of Europe's leading eCommerce brands have expanded their business into the UK market and are setting up a data-orientated office in London. They've recently appointed a highly regarded CDO and Head of Data Science, and are now looking for you to head up their Big Data department.

YOUR ROLE

As Head of Big Data, your role will be to launch the Big Data Engineering team in London. You will have full responsibility for deciding the technology/data platform and the team around you.

Your main responsibilities will be as follows:

* Own the Big Data platform and strategy, and develop the Big Data roadmap

* Engage closely with senior stakeholders, including CTO/CDO, and current data warehousing/BI teams

* Translate requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

* Work closely with major Big Data vendors to analyse the best tools for the job

* Build a world-class engineering team

* Ensure the Big Data platform generates advanced commercial benefits

YOUR SKILLS

The successful Head of Big Data will likely come from a Big Data Manager, Architect or Senior Engineer level position.

You will have the following skills and experience:

* Experience leading advanced Big Data teams, of engineers/developers, analysts and architects

* An excellent understanding of Big Data tools (e.g. Hadoop/Spark/Storm/AWS)

* Some previous development background, in either Big Data, software development or data warehousing

* Experience working with massive amounts of data

* A strong understanding of the commercial benefits of Big Data platforms, and an ability to translate that to stakeholders
