About the role

You will maintain, protect and conserve historic and irreplaceable waterways throughout Shropshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire. It’s all about evaluating the risks they face, prioritising the work that needs to be done, and recommending and delivering innovative ways to improve their condition. Using SAP and GIS systems to gather and analyse information, you’ll carry out inspections, help schedule maintenance and propose and oversee minor construction works, advising internal and external stakeholders on the technical aspects of our infrastructure. Working towards Chartered status, you will get all the exposure and experience you need to gain full membership of the ICE.

About you

Our teams will reply on you for vital engineering and operational support. Working towards Chartered status you will be degree qualified in a relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate proven experience in applying engineering solutions. You will have strong IT skills and will preferably already be familiar with GIS mapping systems and SAP. Add the enthusiasm we all share for the work we do, plus the confidence and communication skills to make your points clearly, whether you are writing or presenting, and you could soon be enhancing our heritage.

About us

One of the UK’s biggest charities, we maintain 2,200 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings - preserving them for future generations. Our mission is to have by 2020 a thriving, sustainable waterway network cherished by a public that shares a deep sense of responsibility for its wellbeing. Achieving this will be a fascinating challenge. Come and be part of it.
