The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is a division within the Ministry of Defence that has responsibility for the management of property services to ensure strategic management of the Defence Estate as a whole, optimising investment and critically supporting military capability to the best effect.

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) area within DIO Head Office is responsible for the delivery, management and assurance of all IT/IS strategies, policies, standards and services that are applicable to the DIO. CIPO has four key pillars; Requirements and Customer Service Team, Design and Transition Team, Delivery and Operations Team and Security and Assurance Team.

The Database Support Assistant Manager role is accountable for ensuring their team adhere to and conform with all agreed DIO processes and operating procedures, and particularly those which are detailed under the key infrastructure process for:

- Perform Service Operations

- Perform Information Assurance

- Define and Design or Amend Service

- Manage Service Integration and Transition

- Decommission Service(s)

Main duties of the role include:

- Manage individuals to contribute to business outputs

- Develop staff and support line manager in delivering departmental goals

- Promote strong working relationships both within the team and with other teams across DIO and MoD

- Support the installation, configuration and maintenance of DIO Application Oracle databases (IMS & retained applications)

- Support the investigation & resolution of Oracle database issues to agreed SLA targets

- Support the installation & testing of Oracle software updates and security patches

- Support the installation, configuration and maintenance of DIO Geospatial applications (ESRi ARCGIS suite)

- Support the investigation & resolution of Geospatial applications issues to agreed SLA targets

- Support the installation and testing of geospatial application software updates & security patches

- Support the delivery of hardware requests for change on Database servers or application servers (including build, test & deploy)

- Support the delivery of software requests for change on application servers (including build, test & deploy)

- Monitor the replication of Oracle databases to DR system using Oracle DataGuard.

- Monitor the back up of Oracle databases and performing recovery when necessary

- Monitor the performance, availability and capacity of Oracle databases, taking preventative or corrective action as required.

- Assist the Availability & Resilience Manager in the support the installation, configuration and maintenance of the DIO virtualised DR Environment for IMS & retained applications

- Assist the Availability & Resilience Manager in the support of the replication of applications from live to DR

- Monitor the replication & performance of DR environment taking corrective or preventative action if required

It is desirable that the successful applicant will have ITIL V3 at Foundation level and experience and/or knowledge of Oracle RDBMS platforms and tools.
