This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in delivering essential ICT support and troubleshooting to the UK’s only fully national emergency service.
From inspecting and certifying ships, to running HM Coastguard, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) aims to be the world’s best maritime safety organisation. The ICT Service Desk is an integral part of our in-house ICT service provision. It underpins our important work to ensure ‘safer lives, safer ships, cleaner seas’ for the nation.
There has never been a more exciting moment to join the team. As part of our commitment to being the best organisation of our type anywhere in the world, we are transforming ICT provision. In the last 12 months, we have issued Windows 8.1 devices, including both convertible tablet/laptops and Windows phones, to all staff. The year ahead will bring a full-scale wide area network replacement programme, including the implementation of cloud-based services.
You’ll provide and coordinate essential service desk support to frontline emergency service personnel. Whether users are having problems with services, equipment or software, you and your team will respond quickly and effectively. Having identified root causes and explored options, the analysis, advice and fixes you deliver will make a huge difference.
To be equal to the challenge, you’ll need to have proven IT user support or service desk experience. Ideally, you will have ITIL qualifications and have demonstrated SFIA skills in previous roles. You’ll certainly demonstrate ITIL ‘Incident’ and ‘Problem’ management skills, together with strong general technical aptitude and a logical, analytic way of thinking. Committed to excellent customer service, you are a ‘natural people person.’ Crucially, you are willing and able to be flexible. We will occasionally call on you to do paid overtime and work outside of normal office hours, as part of planned IT changes and maintenance.
