Optical Design Engineer - £35,000 to £45,000 p/a + benefits - Med Dev - Brighton - Permanent

Due to growth a global manufacturer within medical devices is now looking to appoint a new Optical Design Engineer. The Design Engineer will be responsible for many stages of product design, from concept feasibility through to full scale manufacturing.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Optical Designer with Zemax software experience to join a global leader of innovation within ophthalmology.

Key responsibilities:

* Develop new manufacturing processes and enhance current processes.

* Develop new ophthalmic products.

* Work with production to solve manufacturing issues.

* Work with Regulatory Affairs to provide data for regulatory bodies.

* Initiate and chair regular project meetings and design reviews.

* Work with universities and external contractors to develop new products and processes.

* Ensure all processes are fully validated to a level consistent with the needs of the relevant regulatory bodies.

* Involved in the optical aspects of production processes, both improving and maintaining current processes and the introduction of new systems

Essential Requirements:

* Degree in Science / Engineering or equivalent professional

* Experience in optical component / system design.

* Zemax optical design software experience, 3+ years.

* Experience working within a multidisciplinary project team.

* Ability to understand, digest and disseminate complex concepts at levels appropriate for the target audience.

Desirable:

* PhD involving optical system / component design.

* Knowledge of diffractive optics.

* Experience using MATLAB.

* Experience in optical component fabrication (e.g. diamond turning).

* Experience of working in the medical device industry.

* Experience of working within a strict regulatory framework.
