The normal expectation is that the successful applicant will be appointed to the minimum of the scale with annual increments on 1 October each year (subject to completing six months service).

Main Purpose of the Post

The post holder will report to the Head of Administrative Information and will work collaboratively and support the Manager in designing, leading and project managing cross-cutting data management across the University. The post holder will work closely with the Vice Chancellor’s office, Directors of Professional Services and colleagues on issues relating to data quality, data analysis, interpretation and reporting.

The post is a pivotal role in managing key information sets and published information, ensuring compliance with funding and regulatory requirements whilst also maximising the University’s financial and competitive standing.

The post holder will be responsible for managing the submission of data to external bodies; analysing key outputs from key data sets and their potential impact for the University e.g. production of data to support the accuracy of information in line with QAA guidelines and collaboration with the Academic Registry and the day to day business of internal teams / colleges.

The post holder will analyse data related to this portfolio including marketing, student recruitment and retention, student satisfaction, widening access, NSS, league tables and other areas as required.

The post holder will have significant expertise in submitting statutory HE data and aggregate returns to external agencies, such as HESA and HEFCW, the use of management information to support decision making and will have proven skills in project management and IT reporting applications.

The post holder will be able to demonstrate excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, with a preference for database skills and knowledge of analytics and business intelligence software, with a preference for SAS.

Key activities include independent working and project management of certain support services encompassing:-

- The annual HESA and other statistical returns for submission to external bodies together with communicating findings from data analysis to staff / senior management. This will include analysing key outputs from student and other data from within the University.

- Developing cross cutting data collation and reporting projects, such as Key Information Sets

- Developing the production of regular academic management information reporting throughout the University

- Creating a suite of accessible management information reports to support the ongoing monitoring and review of the academic provision and the enhancement of students’ learning opportunities

- Working to ensure data governance, consistency and timeliness of reports and management information

- Assisting the development of forecasting models to support the University’s decision making processes

- Keeping abreast of government policies and their potential impact on the University

- The post holder will have an in-depth understanding of their specific professional area and in undertaking their responsibilities and accountabilities will be expected to lead by example and to promote the Dignity at Work ethos and equal opportunities standards.

- As post holder you will occasionally be required to liaise effectively with the Senior Management Team, Deans, Heads of Colleges, Directors of Professional services and to contribute to the implementation of the University’s corporate strategic plan.

- It is crucial that the post holder has a thorough understanding of academic planning issues and can relate to the academic work of the Academic Boards and Colleges.

- The post holder will be expected to be positive and proactive in respect of institutional change management initiatives.
