SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER - BASED CENTRAL MANCHESTER

Would you like to join a 15 strong Agile development team working on a complex web based enterprise level application in the centre of Manchester? My client is a progressive company which provides a supportive environment, focused on best practice and promoting continual improvement through an Online self-learning portal.

I need experienced Software Engineers who are passionate about code and problem solving looking to join the growing development team in a friendly and relaxed environment. Who work in the LAMP stack but they would be interested to hear from you if you have experience in other technologies as understanding the business logic is just as important as understanding the code.

The main system, which they wrote from scratch and continue to build on, project manages building work in the Social Housing sector and handles transactions of more than £100 million. There is a suite of other systems which help manage their client's other business processes. You will be expanding to the systems they have built and also involved in some maintenance and support. The current systems are written in the Codeigniter framework but this is likely to change to Laravel or Yii for new functionality.

As well as being a fantastic coder and problem solver, it would be helpful if you have experience of working in an Agile team, be used to using GitHub or a similar version control product and test driven development. We prefer a degree in an appropriate computer based subject and at least five years of commercial experience.

I am also expecting to see that you have developed and improved your skills outside of formal education with personal projects and self-led learning.

As well as having the appropriate experience you will be self-motivated and able to pick up new technologies and approaches.

WHAT MY CLIENTS DO

They offer a full service Digital Agency spanning creative design, web and mobile development and digital marketing. They have been going for 12 years. As well as web and mobile apps and websites built to best practice standards, they work on complex web based systems - this role is aimed at system development.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Reporting to the team leader, you will be expected to use your skills and experience to deliver innovative solutions in line with business requirements, primarily for one client. You will be working as part of our team of 15 that is split into smaller sub teams for two week sprints.

YOUR SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

As an experienced software engineer you will have five years or more commercial experience and expertise in the following skills:

·Software development - PHP would be beneficial but not essential

·MySQL database design and implementation

·Use of Linux and Apache

·Firm understanding of object orientated design and programming

·Javascript and JQuery

·HTML/CSS to W3C standards

·AJAX

·An inquiring mind and an interest in problem solving

The following additional skills would also be beneficial:

·Use of the CodeIgniter framework

·Advanced Linux and Apache administration

·Use of GIT

·Experience with complex Enterprise Level Systems

·Experience of an Agile working environment

You should be:

·Self-motivated

·Flexible and a have a 'can do' attitude

·A great communicator with the team and clients

·Able to understand the pressures of working in an Agency environment

·Passionate about what you do

·A team player
