About the role

Conducted every ten years and with a history spanning over 200 years, the census helps to paint as accurate a picture of the nation as possible. The survey is delivered on an extraordinary scale, and involves every resident across the UK. The data captured then assists the government in making key decisions, as well as businesses and the general public. Since the last census in 2011, digital technology has transformed the way we live and work. In 2021 Census surveys will be completed primarily online. With this in mind, the next census will require a complete overhaul in terms of both design and operation.

How do we deliver an online census, but also make sure that it remains secure and accessible to everyone, including those without access to the internet? What support will we need to provide to facilitate response through other media channels? How do we manage key stakeholders to establish key topics and questions that will form the survey? As Response Collection Delivery Manager, we will look to you to determine the best way for census to collect information, whilst ensuring maximum usability for respondents. From managing key stakeholders and identifying key themes through to design and technical management, your role will be instrumental in constructing and delivering a brand new survey across multiple channels. You'll liaise with a range of internal and external organisations, identifying exactly what they are looking to get out of the survey, and establishing key questions and themes. Then, coordinating work through cross-collaborative teams, you’ll oversee all aspects of design and delivery to ensure that the survey is accessible, robust and fit for purpose.

About you

An influential and inspiring manager, you’ll have a wide demonstrable experience of delivering a large-scale, public facing project or services, including supplier and contract management. Your role will help shape the 2021 Census, and so experience of involvement at every stage of a project’s process is key - from analysis and planning through to implementation. You have a wealth of experience in stakeholder management and are able to manage the expectations of those both internally and externally. A strategic thinker, you also see the bigger picture of a project whilst taking all necessary considerations into account, from official guidelines to security issues.

About the census

The census statistics help paint a picture of the nation and how we live. It provides information regarding the population and its characteristics, and underpins funding allocation decisions to provide public services. The scale of the census is extraordinary as it involves the participation of every resident of England and Wales.
