About the role
Working on the Oxford and Grand Union Canals, you will work within a team of inspectors and engineers committed to preserving and enhancing the nation’s 200 year old canal system. You will be out on the canal inspecting assets and managing the inspections of others. You will apply engineering skills to judge the risk of defects and prioritize repairs. You’ll also contribute to the repair, maintenance, conservation and protection of our waterway assets, everything from brick arch bridges and locks to canals and reservoirs - all with the aim of safeguarding our heritage, improving the safety and preserving the environment of our waterway network for future generations to enjoy.
About you
With a degree or a relevant qualification, you’ve embarked on a career in civil engineering or similar and are keen to expand your experience in applying engineering concepts. You’re a member of a professional body such as ICE, and are currently continuing your professional development. You have strong IT skills, including the use of GIS and SAP. As the canals you will be preserving run from Oxford to Coventry and London to Leicester, travel will be required and a valid driving licence is essential.
About us
One of the UK’s biggest charities, we maintain 2,200 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings - preserving them for future generations. Our mission is to have by 2020 a thriving, sustainable waterway network cherished by a public that shares a deep sense of responsibility for its wellbeing. Achieving this will be a fascinating challenge. Come and be part of it. In addition to salary and car allowance, CRT provides holidays and pension benefits.
