Trainee Surveyor - Marine - Plymouth - circa £26,000 + benefits

On behalf of our FTSE100 listed leading defence client with major military and armed forces contracts in Plymouth, we are seeking a Trainee Surveyor as part of a key support function for their submarine programmes.

Due to excellent growth and a strong order book, the client is successfully expanding from an 800 person workforce to over 1100 people over the next 3+ years, doubling their capital growth from £100m to £200m. It's an exciting time to join one of the UK's foremost defence clients in a period of growth.

As role of Trainee Surveyor, the responsibilities of the role are as follows:

* To undertake surveys (structural) as directed by the Survey Controller on naval platforms and any other vessel or structure in a safe manner. Assist in the preparation of docks and provide support during Docking.

* Produce drawings in support of refit/repair period. Assist in the 'Line-out' of compartments or equipment to meet schedules.

* Support ventilation testing and alignment activities.

* Produce clear and unambiguous written reports.

* Occasional travel and work off site may be required.

Skills/Background required:

* Preferably ONC qualified or extensive knowledge of constructive engineering.

* A marine based engineering apprenticeship (constructive base an advantage).

* Experience of Design.

* Experience of relevant constructive standards.

* General understanding of Marine/Naval vessels and structures.

* Knowledge and experience in the repair of structural defects in marine vessels and structures.

* Knowledge of the survey process, design drawings and testing activities.

* IT Capable: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD.

* IRO £26,155
