Our client is a large multinational organisation running multiple, key projects in the defence sector. They require a Senior Software Engineer to join their bus team in Newport.

The Senior Software Engineer will be an experienced person with a strong software engineering background who will be able to work on their own on a complete design over a year period.

The team's role is to provide PDS support cover for the software aspects of all current and legacy projects. This will include customer liaison with regard to the investigation and resolution of software queries either on site or at customer premises. The position will report to the PDS team's Software Prime Engineer.

Key responsibilities of the Senior Software Engineer are as follows:

+ Be an effective and productive member of a team.
+ Using appropriate tools and techniques to design and develop equipment to company standards and specification requirements.
+ Document, test and integrate equipment where needed to company standards.
+ To be responsible for their own career development.
+ To be responsible for their own time management with regard to project task milestones.
+ Provide technical guidance to fellow team members in at least one major tool or technique used by the business.
+ Able to use all disciplines required in designing the whole or part of a project as determined by project milestones and their team leader.
+ Use experience to support the design and development of critical components where decisions may have a significant impact on project timescales.
+ Represent the business on project related technical matters to the customer.
+ Where necessary take a technical lead role as a Prime on a critical component.

The Senior Software Engineer will have the following essential experience:
+ Significant industrial software development experience in high technology industry using Java.
+ Experience of working in a software support environment.
+ Experience of software systems design & implementation for secure communications equipment in commercial & military environment.
+ Experience of secure communication systems and the special arrangements that have to be maintained in these systems.
+ Experience of process driven software development.
+ Experience of the full project lifecycle.
Essential Skills:
+ UML, Rational Rose, OO Analysis, Design, Development, Java. Good communication.
Desirable Skills:
+ Some familiarity with DOORs, oral/ written skills, commercial awareness.
