Here at Network Rail, we’re determined to deliver a better and safer railway for Britain. Without the correct project and change management in place however, we’re only minutes away from crisis. That’s why, with a £37.5bn investment budget and responsibility for 20,000 miles of track, only the very best project and change management will do. Until recently, we’ve been using a framework based on Managing Successful Programmes. But, MSP™ on its own doesn’t focus on people risks and people engagement. Our change team was therefore asked to focus on building and deploying plans for managing change through people. Changefirst’s PCI® methodology was selected and now forms part of an overall change framework we call MSP4NR.

Day-to-day, you’ll support a Change Management Office service that in turn supports a business unit to achieve its performance targets. This will be achieved by effectively managing a portfolio of programmes across internal functions to deliver the outcomes set out in a business plan. Establishing the best mix of programmes to achieve strategic goals will be important too, as will having access to the right information at the right time to make timely interventions. In addition, you’ll do all you can to help manage and deliver the change to enable transition from portfolio to business-as-usual.

Key to your success will be excellent data collection, manipulation and interpretation skills and a flair for applying project methodologies. We’ll also be looking for some exposure to planning and knowledge and experience of portfolio, programme and/or project management on complex major change projects. Highly analytical, with strong communication and stakeholder management skills, the ability to present and visually represent your data skills is also essential.
