About the role
Providing invaluable technical expertise, you’ll maintain, conserve and protect a wide range of historic and irreplaceable waterway assets across the region - everything from masonry bridges and locks to canals and reservoirs. Your work will include inspecting structures, making recommendations on construction programmes, and providing engineering support to our many customers. Risk management and the customer experience will be your focus. And the innovative solutions that you find will conserve and enhance the heritage of the waterway network for visitors now and for years to come.
About you
To meet this challenge, you will need a track record of safely and efficiently delivering asset inspections and complex engineering activities. A relevant professional qualification is important, as is membership of a body such as ICE. You must also be comfortable contributing to multidisciplinary projects and working with GIS or mapping systems. An understanding of SAP would prove a real asset too. And, as you’ll be working on projects across the South East region, a clean driving licence is a must.
About us
One of the UK’s biggest charities, we maintain 2,200 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings - preserving them for future generations. Our mission is to have by 2020 a thriving, sustainable waterway network cherished by a public that shares a deep sense of responsibility for its wellbeing. Achieving this will be a fascinating challenge. Come and be part of it.
