The role

Technology is at the core of our vision. It enables us to continuously enhance our operations and deliver world-leading science to customers - who span many different market sectors from government and military to retail and aviation. With world-class infrastructure, ground-breaking technology and high profile partners, the projects we take on in our Technology and Information Services (TIS) programme deliver products and services that make a hugely valuable impact all over the world.

This is an exciting opportunity to have a direct impact on the way our TIS projects are delivered, improving processes and people to change the way we work for the better. You’ll work at the forefront of our TIS function to ensure we work smarter and more effectively in order to develop commercially successful products and services. As Deputy Programme Manager, you’ll oversee a significant and challenging programme of work across a wide range of sectors and industries to meet the ever-evolving needs of our high profile customers and the general public.

Collaboration will be key: you’ll occupy a pivotal position between senior management and those responsible for delivery. Setting a high standard for programme and project management, you’ll give our project managers all the support and governance they need to reach industry accredited standards. You’ll also be responsible for the leadership, control and delivery of significant technical budgets and plans. We will look to you to enhance the quality of management information, going beyond performance tracking and providing analysis and management information that will drive continuous improvement for the programme.

The person

While you’re an excellent project or programme manager with extensive experience leading and managing change, you’re ready to make an impact on a larger scale. In order to be considered for the role, you’ll need to have the following essential criteria to be considered for the role:

1. Extensive experience of both programme and project management (waterfall and agile).

2. Excellent leadership skills with a track record of delivering both tactical and strategic change.

3. Proven line management experience with a focus on performance management and bringing teams together to deliver shared outcomes.

4. Excellent planning and organisational skills with an ability to handle conflicting priorities against a backdrop of hard deadlines.

5. Excellent communication skills, able to influence and negotiate with people at all levels within the organisation.

6. Strong analytical skills with demonstrable evidence of turning management information into a programme of continual improvement.

If you have any of the following desirable criteria, that’s even better:

1. Qualifications in MSP (Managing Successful Programmes) and Project Management (Prince 2 as well as Agile methodologies).

The best for our customers, the best for your career. It’s a career where you’ll be challenged, developed and fascinated; a career where whatever you do, your work will make a valuable contribution to the bigger picture. A career to be proud of.
