As part of the Ministry of Defence trading fund, at the UK Hydrographic Office, we produce nautical publications and services for the Royal Navy and merchant shipping, to protect lives at sea. Maintaining our leading position supporting the global mission of our national security forces, we employ around 1000 people based in Taunton, Somerset, with a vision to be the world’s best provider of hydrographic data services. It takes brilliant people to achieve our vision. And that’s where you come in.

As Solutions Architect you’ll be tasked with delivering solutions and key Architectural Artefacts under the UKHO Architectural Framework. It will be down to you to design and communicate high-level structures, ensuring that the design and development of integrated solutions are enabled, ensuring that any current and future business needs are met. We’ll look to you to coordinate Solution Architecture, developing and maintaining architecture descriptions using Archimate, within the Sparx Enterprise Architect toolset. And alongside this, you will define technical designs, utilising architecture building blocks, principles and reference architectures.

You’ll join us with extensive experience in leading architecture designs and defining systems in accordance with MoD and HMG Security Standards and the ISO27001 series. Ideally you will hold or have an understanding of the TOGAF, allowing you to make any changes to service, process or other aspects in addition to technology components. Naturally, you’ll apply appropriate standards, policies and frameworks to solution designs to everything you do, delivering cross divisional solutions aligned with corporate objectives.

This is a Ministry of Defence non-reserved post for which applicants must be British citizens, citizens of the Irish Republic, a Commonwealth state or EEA nations. Successful applicants will require NSV security clearance; therefore will need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
