The opportunity has arisen for an experienced IT support officer to join a truly recession proof scientific organisation based in Lancaster. At the forefront of environmental science study the need for a profficient windows, unix/ linux, vmware, novell IT support officer to join a small team of 4 support engineers has arisen.
The successful candidate of profficient windows, unix/ linux, vmware, novell IT support officer will be responsible for the following duties:
? General computer support to staff on site
? General systems administration (e.g. account provisioning, log monitoring)
? Day to day operation of the data backup systems
? Rectifying software or hardware problems on desktop/ laptop PCs and looking for ways to improve effective use of IT
? Maintaining images of PC / Tablet software installations for rapid re-imaging in the event of failures
? Maintain hardware and software (licensing) inventory
? Maintain the Software Update Services (Microsoft WSUS) server and co-ordinate issuing of updates to desktop PC?s
? Local Area Network Access Control
? Contributing to projects to improve computing facilities on site
? Control of the site consumables budget, and maintaining adequate consumable supplies
? Control of the site?s annual PC replacement budget and liaising with section leaders on replacement strategies
The right candidate for the role of windows, unix/ linux, vmware, novell IT support officer must be profficient in the following:
Essential skills:
? Microsoft desktop operating systems (currently Windows XP)
? Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
? Internet technologies
? IT security
Desirable skills:
? Experience of server virtualization technologies such as VMware
? Linux / Unix (Solaris)
? Novell NetWare, ZENworks
? Familiarity with relational databases (Oracle, SQL-Server, MySQL)
You will have a methodical approach to troubleshooting problems, and be able to deal directly with users, as well as hardware suppliers and software supporters. Good effective communication and time management skills are essential. You must be able to work within a team and independently, and have a positive approach to change.
