A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Oracle DBA/ Senior Systems Specialist to join this dynamic team within a leading IT outsourcer. Based on customer site in Glasgow city centre, the successful individual will be responsible for all database support, dealing with customer issues, and resolving technical problems. There is a need for this individual to be on standby overnight for 1 week out of 4.
The key responsibilities of this role are:
Set standards for database administration
Manage database configuration(s)
Monitor trends in database activity
Ensure that recovery plans are tested regularly
Manage database resources
Ensure database problems are investigated
Ensure that procedures and scripts for all aspects of database administration are established and maintained
Project Based Duties (20%) - Work as part of a team to deliver complex solutions, Deliver project service and support take on documentation using appropriate mix of text versus graphics
This is an excellent role, and to be considered, you must have the following skills:
Proven experience as an Oracle DBA (8i/ 9i/ 10g) on Sun Solaris & Windows with:
- Database build, installation and administration experience
- Backup and recovery using RAM (preferably with Veritas Netbackup)
- Performance Tuning
- DataGuard
Proven experience as an MS SQL Server DBA (2000/ 2005) with:
- Installation, build and administration experience
- Backup and Recovery
- Performance tuning
- Log Shipping
Proven UNIX skills (especially Sun Solaris) including:
- Shell Scripting
- Basic administration and troubleshooting
- Experience working with Veritas products (Netbackup, Cluster Server, Veritas Filesystems)
It would be desirable if you had the following:
Oracle/ MS SQL Server Certification
Experience with MySQL administration
Experience working with the Telecoms and/ or Managed Services sectors
Experience with Oracle Application Server
Experience with any of the following: Portal Billing, Intec, Axioss
**Out-of-hours standby cover is an integral part of this role**
