NB this is a low-level Linux Kernel role working with low-level Drivers in (real) C (sometimes referred-to as Kernighan & Ritchie C, 'proper' C or BELL C, although Unified Parallel C (UPC) or even Small C / Whitesmiths C might also be of use...)
Red Hat, RHEL, SUSE, Gentoo, Slackware or Debian are probably the best fit (or maybe perhaps some Syllable, Fedora, Centos, OpenBSD or Ubuntu might also be OK...)
Solaris, AIX, HP-UX would also be of some use so long as there's some actual Linux @ low-level...
