Our client is a worldwide supplier of asset management services and solutions within the power utility sector that deliver real benefits to both asset owners and energy users. An opportunity has now arisen for an Electronics Innovation Engineer (or graduate) to join their team.

Not only will the successful candidate be able to demonstrate strong skills in analogue and digital electronics, microprocessors, and FPGAs, they will be expected to evaluate problems, propose potential technical solutions, devise experimental tests and laboratory trials to establish proof of concept, and analyse the results to verify the solution works before developing it through to production.

Joining the New Technology Development Team, as an Electronics Innovation Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide and varied range of projects. Much of our client’s current portfolio of instruments is designed for the early detection of failure in high voltage plant and equipment though the detection of partial discharge using various techniques.

Other typical projects include: fault finding on underground cables, real-time lightning location, condition monitoring of wind farms, study and classification of electrical discharge phenomena, aerial inspection of overhead power lines from helicopters, and even counting fish traversing hydro electric dams.

Located in the North West of England near the city of Chester, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a team of experienced engineers and scientists who have won a number of Queens Awards for innovation. There are likely to be opportunities for international travel and working directly with clients as part of the 250-strong international, unique employee-owned organisation.

What’s more, the company will also provide support towards IET Chartered status if needed, together with exciting career prospects within its rapidly expanding international business.

To be considered for the role of Electronics Innovation Engineer, you must have:

- Experience of analogue and digital electronics, microprocessors and FPGAs

- Experience of managing multiple projects

Knowledge of embedded programming, real time operating systems, PCB design, SolidWorks and mathematical modelling would be beneficial to your application.
