Essential technical skills:
We expect the successful candidate to:
Have very good proven knowledge of the following technologies:
• Core Java (Preferably with experience of 1.5)
• Web development with an MVC approach with Struts or similar
• Spring framework
• SQL
• JUnit
• Tomcat
• Hibernate
• HTML and CSS
• Javascript/ AJAX
• Windows
Knowledge of the following technologies would be desirable:
• IntelliJ
• Webwork
• Freemarker
• Subversion change control tool
• Linux / Unix
• Sybase
• Cruisecontrol
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the candidate include the following, though note this is not an exhaustive list.
• Receiving and interpreting functional specifications and clarifying all unclear points.
• Contributing to the design process, so that the final solution meets the functional needs; while respecting the overall workflow of the existing application.
• Where necessary contribute to technical specifications.
• Writing/ Amending code that conforms to the prevailing best practice standards, both documented and de facto.
• Following the team's configuration management process.
• Unit testing of own code changes.
• Supporting the User Acceptance Testing.
• Contributing to the overall effort of regression testing.
• Ensuring all pertinant documentation is updated as part of the release package.
• Contribute to the on call overnight support rota and assist on day time support calls as necessary
• Escalation of barriers to progress via his/ her team leader in a timely and succinct manner.
Be able to demonstrate experience of understanding complex systems, analysing and resolving
issues, writing technical specifications and be able to unit test and debug their own work.
Be able to produce designs that solve the given problem taking into account current models employed within the application, performance, configuration management, team standards, maintainability and support.
Have a working knowledge of MS family of products (Word, Excel, Access etc).
