Our client is a leading global player in the financial services sector providing a range of very successful services to their clients, who are now looking for a Java Applications Developer / Software Engineer to undertake the creation, testing and documentation of new and amended programs from supplied requirements and specifications in accordance with agreed standards. The role requires a person to fulfil this position who is structured, organised and specialist / technical / administrative by nature. The job calls for someone who is systematic and has the ability to concentrate on things within their area of knowledge, experience and education. The person fulfilling this role will proven commercial experience in the development process with hands on experience of basic design, structured programming, work reviews, testing cycles from unit to acceptance testing, release build, implementation and post release bug/ issue fixes, and be familiar with a variety of development approaches/ methodologies, most likely to include the ‘Waterfall' and Object Orientated approaches. Ability to diagnose application issues reported from Production by combining knowledge of the application with a logical and intuitive approach to identify potential causes. Able to write technical software development documents to record work and contribute to user manuals and similar operational guides. Solid hands on development experience of Java 5 is required, along with some of the following: Oracle – SQL, J2EE, XML, XSLT, HTML, IntelliJ, Unix/ Linux scripting, Oracle - PL/ SQL, TOAD, JUnit – Testing, Ant, Swing (GUI), Weblogic.
