Remember that this is a low-level Linux Kernel role working with low-level Drivers in (real) C (some people call this 'proper' C, others call it BELL C, although Unified Parallel C (UPC) would also be of use...)
Red Hat, RHEL, SUSE, Gentoo, Slackware or Debian are probably the best fit (or maybe Syllable, Fedora, Centos, OpenBSD or Ubuntu), Solaris, AIX, HP-UX all of some use so long as there's some Linux low-level...
Perm Role, TOP-Flight firm, it REALLY IS paying up to ~£46,000pa.
Includes: Kernel Tuning / Customising / Optimising work, rationalizing' of the code to shrink the Kernel footprint.
