Technical Writer required by this leading supplier of vacuum equipment to the semiconductor, scientific instrument and industrial markets to write, or have written by sub-contractors, produce and accurately maintain manuals to a high standard in accordance with the house style. The balance of in-house and sub-contract written manuals will be determined in consultation with the Technical Publicity Manager but is expected to be at least 30% in-house. Ensure that the Content Database is maintained on a daily basis through the use of SAP reporting tools and the Engineering Change system.

The Technical Writer will be educated to HNC/ HND or BTEC in mechanical or electromechanical engineering. Proven technical writing experience in an engineering environment either employed by an engineering company or an agency. Experience, as a practising engineer would be an advantage but must have the aptitude to quickly understand a diverse range of products and their applications. Must demonstrate the ability to write clear, concise English by producing previous work. Must be methodical and logical. Must be able to accurately interpret drawings, electrical diagrams and networks; also data and instructions given by project engineers and technologists. The ability to suggest meaningful illustrations to substitute for extensive text is a requisite. Must be diplomatic in negotiating priorities with staff at all levels, understanding their commercial priorities. Good computer skills in the use of appropriate software including Microsoft Windows products. A working knowledge of both Framemaker and In-Design would be beneficial. Good presentation skills to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from various disciplines and levels of seniority. Ability to work to agreed budget and take responsibility for controlling costs.
