Developer
Purpose:
The Developer works as part of the Policy Administration Systems team.
This person delivers on project and team objectives by developing, enhancing
and maintaining systems and system interfaces in support of Operations,
Customer Services, Finance and Actuarial teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Participation in planning sessions with clients, Business Analysts, and team
members to analyse requirements, assess feasibility of solution, and the
development of detailed requirements.
- Creation of technical specifications, design recommendations, programs per
written technical specifications.
- Solution feasibility assessment and design
- Translation of business and technical requirements into application modules.
- Development and maintenance of business relationships with colleagues in
corporate departments and function resulting in greater understanding of
business.
- Application of project management and quality assurance principles and
processes.
- Assurance that application meets requirements; participation in appropriate
unit, system, integrated and user acceptance testing
- Ongoing maintenance and production support of applications or tools.
- And, other ad hoc responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
- 3 or more years of programming and industry specific (insurance/ financial
services) business experience.
- Requires understanding/ experience of multiple programming languages and
applicable tools, interfaces and applications especially Java, Javascript,
Struts, Apache, Tomcat, Oracle, XML and Web Services.
- Knowledge of Cobol, Spring, CICS, Unix Scripting is desirable.
- Technical training, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience.
- Knowledge and experience of/ in Life Insurance industry particularly
unit-linked investment bonds and working with multi-country teams a plus.
- Experience with thin-client distributed computing development, tools and
environments.
- Experience with projects through which multiple systems are integrated,
including design and implementation of high-level and detailed project plans.
