Key Responsibilities
•Reporting to the IT Infrastructure Manager, the candidate will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day running of the companies production SQL Server environment and single production DB2 database.
•Responsible for the strategic direction of the companies database systems
•Responsible for ensuring the availability and high performance of the companies databases; Work closely with the IT Infrastructure team to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to databases are sufficient.
•To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime (both SQL Server and DB2 interface).
•Responsible for providing trend analysis to the IT management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
•Responsible for troubleshooting and optimization of SQL and DB2 development.
•Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.
•Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timescales and change management processes.
•Ensuring the appropriate processes for change control are adhered to.
Experience and requirements
•In depth SQL Server Database Administration experience and DB2 exposure a distinct advantage.
•Experience of managing multiple MS SQL 2000 & 2005 RDBMS on large systems. 64Bit also advantageous.
•Strong self-sufficiency and initiative working on Database projects
•Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service.
•Experience of Transactional SQL, and DTS stored procedures.
•Practical experience in managing the internal and external MS SQL database security
•Experience dealing with 3rd party vendor systems and the escalation of support when required.
•The candidate will have experience of implementing processes and controls to support this business.
•Good academic background
•Excellent communication skills – the candidate will need to liaise with internal & external parties at all levels, therefore needs to be confident in dealing with people.
