Highlights of department:
(Please give an overview of the business area and describe current and future projects/ area's that the candidate will be working).
•The Sybase team supports both development and live environments within CIBM based in London and in the data centres. We also have strong communications with our peers in New York and Hong Kong
•The DBA team is split into two areas; Sybase / MS SQL and Oracle and both teams working closely. You will join as a member of the Sybase database administration team of 9 staff reporting to the Sybase team manager via a team leader
•The Sybase team also has responsibility for DBA's in India, who look after local developers for CIBM, manage some UK/ India applications and help share the out of hours support (On call between UK 03:30-08:00)
•The Sybase team is presently responsible for over 50 Sybase / 70 MS SQL Server applications of varying sizes and complexity. We presently have applications on Sybase 11.x, 12.x and 12.5.x, and MS SQL Server 7.0 and 2000

Responsible For:

•Installation and maintenance of database server, replication and client environments and definition of standards pertaining to the configuration and operation of database server and client components
•Physical database design and administration using both an in-house method and CAST
•Distributed database architecture - Sybase / MSSQL / Replication Server
•24 hour * 7 days support of production database services to ensure the highest standards of availability, resilience, integrity, security and performance required by our business systems.
•Security and access control
•Ensure that adequate provision is made for the backup and recovery of all data held within databases
•Performance monitoring and tuning
•Development of infrastructure and investigation of 3rd party products required to provide production, test and development database services in a cost-effective manner.
•Provision of support and assistance to development teams in the design, development, testing, tuning and implementation of database applications including provision of such development and testing environments that are required
•Identification of opportunities to maximize exploitation of current and new products relevant to the provision of database services.



ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Including: Education, technical knowledge (number of years required), company/ industry experience, IT knowledge (levels required), languages etc.
•Sybase / MS SQL Server Administration
•Sybase Performance and Tuning skills
•Shell Programming
•Sybase Replication Server
•Basic Unix Administration ( Sun, HP-UX , Linux)
