Key responsibilities
•Ensure the continuous availability, capacity, security and performance of all our databases.
•Provide environments, troubleshooting, advice and improvements in order to facilitate applications development.
•Support business projects in conjunction with our development function.
•Plan and execute infrastructure and database upgrades, improvements and new installations
•Plan and coordinate upgrades with other groups e.g. operations, developers, business Users.
•Design and set standards that take Man Group technology up a step change in its professional level.
•Assist developers - provide test/ development environments, setting standards regarding coding and design, ensuring change release procedures are adhered to, providing performance tuning advice and troubleshooting.
•Performance monitoring and tuning of live databases.
•Solve operational problems as soon as possible with minimal interruptions to service.
•Root cause analysis / investigation of problem resolution to safeguard against future occurrence.
•Capacity planning to ensure adequate capacity is available for all live and development databases.
•Produce clear and comprehensive documentation.
Requirements
•It is essential that you are an experienced Oracle DBA with a background in supporting mission critical, transactional and 24*7 operations.
•Your colleagues should consider you to be a very good, if not expert Oracle DBA with enthusiasm and the aptitude to learn coupled with thorough knowledge of the following:
•Oracle 9i, 10G or 11G (11G highly desirable) running on Linux (Red Hat 4 or 5)
•RMAN backups
•Oracle RAC
•Oracle Enterprise Manager
•Unix / Linux shell scripting
•SQL Performance tuning
•Experience of: installation; backup and recovery; configuration management; security; monitoring and tuning; and vendor interfacing is essential.
•The ability to work in a close team environment carrying out the technical aspects of your job and being enthusiastic about what you do whilst being aware that the overall needs of the business comes first, is essential.
•Proven ability to work unsupervised, be proactive and communicate ideas for changes, improvements is essential.
