IT jobs in Tokyo can be very exciting due to the fast pace of change. Like many parts of the UK, Tokyo has a shortage of IT skills and so the demand for generic developer skills such as Java, C++, C# is high.
The working practices and office culture in Tokyo is different from Europe. In Tokyo it is not uncommon for employees to work very long hours and for those who are seen as being the first ones to leave the office to be regarded as weak. As a result many employees often work late purely to demonstrate commitment.
Due to Japanese tradition bowing is still very common. Bowing is similar to a handshake but it also reflects hierarchy. Depth of a bow indicates the level of respect being shown. Although handshakes are becoming increasingly more common in Tokyo for those newly arrived in Japan it might be worth considering bowing gently and offering a handshake to people you meet.
