Web Application Developer

Sage One is a series of online services for small business owners and their accountants, allowing them to manage their business finances. Because Sage One is more than just software we include free 24/ 7 telephone support, email support and an online help centre.

We have a requirement for a Senior Web Application Developer to join our expanding Ruby on Rails development team. This is an opportunity for you to draw on your extensive commercial web development experience to support the future of Sage Online.

About the role

Creating web-based applications under this well respected brand is a tremendous opportunity. We're looking for you to have significant experience working with a broad range of different web technologies. Ideally you'll have worked commercially with Ruby on Rails, but experience working with similar languages or frameworks (such as Java / Hibernate with Spring / .NET MVC / Python / Django / Grails / CodeIgniter / CakePHP) will be looked upon favourably. It is essential that your experience is web-based and you are able to demonstrate a working knowledge of OO development principles.

Skills and experience

Experience of working in open source environments will be an advantage, and an understanding of good database design is crucial. A firm grasp of browser-based technologies (HTML, CSS3, HTML5, Javascript, jQuery, Backbone, etc) is important, although this will not be your primary focus. Experience of Test Driven Development and of working in an agile development environment (particularly SCRUM) is desirable.
