If you’ve managed programme accounts in a complex, large-scale programme on a national scale before, you could have what it takes to shape a change programme at a critical stage – one that’s set to transform the way the country consumes energy.
What is Smart Metering?
Smart metering is a major programme across government and industry that will help the UK move to a low carbon economy. It involves the installation of smart meters in every home and small business across the country by 2019 – making this change programme the biggest the energy industry has seen for 40 years. Smart meters will enable residents and small businesses to understand their energy consumption, to save energy and to reduce carbon emissions. Smart meters will also form the foundation for smart grids, part of the Coalition Government’s strategy on energy and climate change policy. Your expertise can help this ambitious, high-profile project to succeed.
About the role
As Programme Accountant you will be responsible for the financial management of the Programme. You will take charge of a multi million pound budget and be responsible for accurately forecasting spend in areas such as procurement and provision of technical specialists as well as spend on individual workstreams and consumer engagement. This is a high profile Government project with high levels of scrutiny and we will look to you to deliver value for money in all the Programme’s activities. Of course, you won’t be doing this alone – you’ll be reporting to the PMO Manager as part of a wider PMO team with colleagues in a range of PMO disciplines to draw on and support. You will play a key role in the management of this programme and in supporting the decision-making across the programme.
About you
As an experienced and suitably qualified Programme Accountant you will have extensive experience of accounting in a large and complex programme and you will be ready for this key, high-profile role. You will be familiar with the programme management methodologies ‘Prince 2’ and ‘Managing Successful Programmes’ as well as having some knowledge of public sector programme governance processes and best practice programme management techniques. You will have the written and oral skills to communicate complex issues clearly and simply and you will have the inter-personal skills to build constructive relationships with a range of work-stream leads and stakeholders, plus the credibility to earn their respect. You will be delivery focussed and have the determination to meet milestones and you will be keen to seize this opportunity to have a lasting effect on global sustainability.
