Do you wish to make a difference to research in the NHS?
An opportunity has arisen for a project manager for ORCHID to join the Research & development Department at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust.
Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust has identified excellence in research for the benefit of patients as a core component of its corporate vision to be the best acute teaching organisation by 2016.
In order to realise this vision, the Trust has formed a close research partnership with the University of Nottingham (UoN), with a common research strategy and an integrated system of research management and governance. This research partnership has recently been awarded three prestigious National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Units in Gastrointestinal (including Liver) Disease, Respiratory Disease and Deafness and Hearing Problems and has been outstandingly successful in other major NIHR competitions. NUH therefore expects to be at the forefront of innovation in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of ill health and in the translation of advances in basic biomedical research into benefits for patients.
ORCHID is a hierarchical coding system for clinical information. It employs a novel data architecture which allows it to be used as a clinical information tool for storing and presenting data on individual patients and as a powerful research tool for identifying and analysing research cohorts. It employs a custom written web-based user interface. It is being developed initially within rheumatology but is designed to be generalisable across multiple specialties. Early collaborating departments will include the hepatobiliary and respiratory BRUs. Clinical information in ORCHID will be linked to tissue data held within the NUH / University of Nottingham biobanks. The post holder will help support the team to lead and develop the ORCHID programme. The post holder will work very closely with with Prof J Chelsom (Health Informatics, City University, London), NUH IT Services, NUH R&I (Dr B Thomson) and Russell Page (Project Manager, Nottingham Research Biobank).
The key focus on this role will be supporting the design, development, dissemination and implementation of ORCHID within specialties at NUH. The post holder will also have a key role in managing the governance and programme management arrangements of ORCHID.
The post holder will facilitate and monitor progress of the development of ORCHID and provide practical support to teams to take forward implementation of ORCHID. The post holder will also work with Programme Leads, clinical staff, and Data Managers to ensure the team achieve the overall Programme plan.
The role holder will plan and execute the successful delivery of the ORCHID project by using Prince 2 approaches. The role will involve managing the project across a number of disciplines including help with setting up hosting databases and or system development (where required). The role holder will be responsible for all quality, risks, issues, budgets and change controls.
