BLACKBERRY DATA CENTRE TECHNICIAN – EMEA
BLACKBERRY OPERATIONS
POSITION SUMMARY
The Data Center Technician is responsible for server installation based on best practices to ensure the lowest possibility of failure due to external causes.
Responsibilities will include:
• Maintain the process of logging pertinent data regarding installed corporate server base
• Assist in developing procedures for server installations, cabling to appropriate standards from server through to server farm switches including proper binding and labelling
• Assist with the maintenance of proper inventory levels and orders as required
• Maintain Data Center storage areas in a clean and orderly fashion complementary with world class standards
• Potential travel to other Data Centers to assist and train in standard procedures exists
• RMA/ repair of defective servers and devices, troubleshooting techniques, ESD precaution
• Liaising with vendor support technicians and interfacing with users/ customers to provide support and service for problem resolution at the server or network level
Skills & Experience required include:
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Knowledge and experience of Data Center practices
• Demonstrated ability to take a proactive approach to problem solving with deductive reasoning when faced with new situations
• Good understanding of current fibre optic and copper cabling techniques
• Ability to organize and schedule tasks
• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions based on current available information without direct assistance in the absence of specific details or procedural steps.
• Must be able to work independently under fast paced and at times intense conditions with minimal or no supervision
• Ability to liaise effectively with all users within the IT community and to assess their requirements
• Requires heavy lifting and awkward body positions when installing servers, cabling and under floor cable trays
